Gwen Johnson has lived in her home on 64th and Wood for more than 50 years. Affectionately known as Ms. Gwen, she is an unfailing source of wisdom for I Grow Chicago, always updating the nonprofit on what is happening in the community and who needs help.

Ms Gwen contracted COVID-19 over a week ago and was admitted to St. Bernard Hospital before being transferred to Rush University Medical Center. She took a turn for a worse on Monday, but is now in stable condition. Community members are rallying around her, and I Grow Chicago remains hopeful.

Zelda Mayer, I Grow Chicago’s Director of Development, said once she recovers and it’s safe to give hugs and kisses, the I Grow family plans to give Ms. Gwen all the love she can stand.
