Yoga and Mindful Movement

Young Yogis combines yoga and mindfulness, creative expression, mentoring, and restorative justice practices to foster healing and engagement among students in community schools every week.
One Breath Community Yoga came from our awareness that just one breath can make the difference between life and death. Through yoga and other healing strategies, I Grow Chicago encourages residents to take a pause and participate in healing themselves and their community. Free yoga classes are offered every week at our Peace House and local businesses, including Kusanya Cafe. All ages and experience levels are welcome.
HeART in Action utilizes all types of creative expression to promote healing, self-discovery, and justice. Through our partnership with Old Town School of Folk Music, we host weekly drumming and spoken word circles for youth and adults at our Peace House.
Sustainability and Urban Farming
Peace Garden provides a vibrant source of food and a space for healing and connection to self, community, and the earth. In 2015, we transformed two vacant lots into our Peace Garden, and in 2017, we installed our first greenhouse. Through a partnership with Growing Home, we employ an Englewood resident as our Master Gardener and provide educational opportunities to youth and children in our summer camp.
Mentorship and Skill Building
Survive to Thrive engages community members comprehensively to identify and break down barriers preventing them from being successful in life. This program is completely customized to self-defined needs and goals. We provide bus cards and transportation, school and work uniforms, resume and interview assistance, school books, stipends for GED and college programs, employment opportunities, and more.
Life After School allows children to decompress and relax after school in a supportive environment. This program occurs every Wednesday and Thursday and includes games, yoga and mindfulness, creative playtime, mentorship, and a healthy snack.
League of Learners provides children with an environment in which they have the opportunity to realize their potential through one-on-one learning. In all our tutoring sessions we strive to make children feel loved, intelligent, and respected.
Summer of Hope Youth Program creates opportunity for play-based learning, creative expression, leadership development, and yoga for youth ages 5-12. The six-week program promotes social awareness and community building, empowering youth with knowledge, tools, and confidence to achieve their fullest potential. The program includes daily yoga and mindfulness, art activities, two meals per day, and weekly field trips outside of Englewood, creating space for kids to be kids.
Restorative Justice and Community Building
Chi-Rise Police-Community Relationship Building facilitates discussion and healing between community members and police utilizing restorative justice practices. Through monthly peace circles, community dinners, and meetings, this programs allows us all to see each other as what we really are — humans.
Men’s Group and Women’s Group provides a support system for individuals to meet their goals and navigate their unique struggles. These weekly peer-led groups work to bridge the gap between who you are today and the person you know you can be. Each session includes discussion, food, and creative expression activities.
Community Building Events connect communities and people of all ages so we can share and grow together. Monthly events include holiday celebrations, educational workshops, and community meals.

Whatever your age, you have something to offer: mentoring a young person, helping serve food, gathering and delivering needed supplies, or providing a little muscle and elbow grease at events.

It takes one seed, one step, one chance to change a person’s life. And one dollar can go a long way in helping us making that happen.
If you are an individual or an organization and want to help us out monetarily, or if you have something to donate in-kind, we will put it to good use.
Be sure to check out the list on the Events page of the specific items we need for different events.
We are grateful for any and all support.
